Excellent, but intensely demanding. If Amazon had a button for "Love/Hate", that would be it for me. Previous levels of Pimsleur's French have proceeded at a moderate pace, with new content fed in at reasonable intervals, plenty of time to learn, and plenty of time to respond to the prompts given. My learning proceeded well and kept pace. Finishing Level 4, I was anticipating the next level with some impatience, feeling that I was making good progress and not wanting to break the continuity.French Level 5, however, ramps everything up: the sheer quantity and variety of new content, the increased speed of speech in the prompts, and shortened time within which to respond. My increasing frustration with my own inability to keep up became almost a dealbreaker and I was tempted (more than once) to just stop torturing myself and accept that I would never learn French. In fact, more than tempted -- I actually did stop a few times, shut off my MP3 player & threw it onto the passenger seat in disgust (I listen while commuting), and cursed both Pimsleur and the MP3 player, determining I would never pick it up again. Always, I picked it up on the next morning's commute, with my jaw set, determined to soldier on.Interestingly enough, though, as I go through my day, I find that as I communicate in English with my colleagues, in my mind I can make similar communications in French, with a level of mastery that I didn't have before. I do supplement the lessons with periodic readings of articles in Le Monde, and I've subscribed to News In Slow French, which I also dip into several times a week. It appears that each one of these hands washes the others, and there is progress in spite of it all.Bottom line -- highly recommended, but hang in there. My own intention, after several months of P5 and only getting halfway through, is to finish at the same pace and then go through the whole thing again a couple more times after I'm done. Hopefully there will be a P6 by then!
